StarStarStarStarStar The Best
User: Robert Ramolete, Jan 30, 2010

Pros:  Good Fit, Amazing Sound, better than the apple wired set
Cons:  Ring tones should be heard in the headset

I tried a set of Motorola S9 HD that was probably made in China. The sound was "tinny" compared to this Backbeat 903. I really love the way the music is played back on this headset and the fit is good and comfortable. It seals the outside ambient sounds. I cant understand why others are complaining about this as I have no problems with my set. It would seem to me that this headset sounds just as good if not better than the Apple wired set that comes with the iPhone. I woulld strongly recommend this headset over the S9 HD. A friend of mine did buy the Motorola Rokkor S9 HD and the seller claimed this was 100 authentic. The only problem with that headset was the phone dont even ring any sound when paired with the iPhone. He dont like the idea because he has programmed all his ring tones to identify his callers. As for the Plantronics Backbeat 903, The ring tones come through the iPhone and tones are heard in the headset when you have an incomming call. Still, all in all, the Altec Lansing speaker System in the Plantronics Backbeat 903 is definitely no. 1 in my book regaurdless what the ratings are otherwise. Everybody, BUY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
StarStarStarStarStar Great sound
User: Holly Hewson, May 22, 2010

Pros:  Excellent sound
Cons:  Kept falling off my small earlobes

Great sound but sometimes people had a hard time hearing me, other times, the connection was fine. I have small earlobes and the ear pieces kept falling off of my ears whenever I turned my head. Perfect for working out. Not so great when driving.
StarStarStarStarStar Good and average
User: Bear T, Aug 22, 2010

Pros:  Sound quality is good fits in pocket
Cons:  Poor bluetooth outside, no music skip forward, no ring tones

I owned the S9-HDs.until someone wanted them more than me. I preferred the sound quality on the S9s and the fit however the S9s will not fit in your pocket like the 903s which is a major plus for me.

I dont like the fit of the 903s on my ears, always feel like theyre about to fall off but dont. The S9s on the other had are more rigid and when you lean your head back it pushes the ear pieces off your ears.

Sound quality is good in my opinion except that outside the blue tooth simply doesnt work well. Inside I have no complaints as it works to the 33 foot range with no problem.
As others mentioned, you hear a tone for incoming calls and not the ring tone.which I find very annoying as that is how I determine if I am going to answer or not depending upon what Im doing at the moment. Ive never had a complaint from anyone about the mic, guess Im lucky there.

For those complaining about using them in a car - duh! It is illegal, at least in Maine, to have BOTH ears covered for any reason. As an ex-ambulance and fire truck driver it is bad enough getting people attention.errrr.
StarStarStarStarStar Poor background noise cancellation
User: Greg Harlow, Jan 1, 2010

Pros:  Great sound
Cons:  Not good in a noisy atmosphere

I loved these and played with them for a month. But I drive a diesel car and I couldnt hear people well and they couldnt hear me while driving. And, isnt that where we are required to use hands free devices - in the car?

Otherwise, at home, these were great for music, podcasts and conversation.
StarStarStarStarStar Great sound potential...But
User: Jennifer Shields, Oct 23, 2010

Pros:  The quality of the sound coming out of the headset is very good, but because of the VERY POORLY designed ear inserts you cannot get the sound into your ears
Cons:  Poorly designed ear inserts with no option to replace with better solution

I have always been very sensitive to the quality of the sound coming from my audio system and speakers. When I bought my first iPod I spent three times as much as I spent on the iPod on a high quality set of ear buds. Altec Lansing has always had good quality audio products so when I looked for a Bluetooth Headset I went with the Altec Backbeat 903. I was totally disappointed. The quality of the sound coming out of the earbuds is very good, but because of the VERY POOR design of the headset and the ear inserts most of the sound does not make it into your ears. I called Altec and Plantronics for a different style of ear inserts but there are none available. I now own a $100.00 paperweight because the music that actually makes it into your ear canal sounds terrible, a $9.00 set of earbuds sounds better. If they would change the design to the in canal inserts these would sound totally awesome but as is they sound terrible.
StarStarStarStarStar Call is good, but...
User: Esteban Camacho, Jan 19, 2010

Pros:  Good call quality and mic
Cons:  Everything else

The headset is great when it comes to calls, however, that is not really the purpose of a stereo bluetooth headset... that is unless you know some human being that can speak in stereo. The music quality suffers greatly when the volume is turned up. Also, the headset is rather uncomfortable overall. I returned it to Sprint after 5 days of trying it and switched to the Motorola S9-HD headset, which I am keeping. I guess if you want a stereo headset for calls only, this is great for you, otherwise... look to the competition.
StarStarStarStarStar Not good for exercise
User: Steven Wright, May 26, 2011

Pros:  Excellent sound
Cons:  Not made well

I loved these headphones when I first got them but after a month they died. I wrote the manufacturer and they replaced them without argument. This happened four times in a row all about month or so apart. I just gave up.

I bought them to wear during workouts and mountain biking. I obviously sweat during these activities. I believe that the sweat gets into the case and shorts out the circuits.
StarStarStarStarStar Bluetooth, answer calls and pause music
User: David Stander, Jul 12, 2010

Pros:  if you like the hearing aid look
Cons:  everything

M.O. I upgraded from what was supposed to be a lesser product, but I never had a problem with listening to music with my phone on my belt, riding my bike with the lesser model. These backbeat, skipping, losing connection etc. NO skipping music feature, paying for the buttons? the little tab button for raising and lowering the music, awful design, everytime you push the talk button you insert the earpiece further into you ear (its a tough button). Sound not bad but not loud enough to blot out the world (max) This is way to expensive for what it does. If I could put a price on less than mediocre, id save my money instead.
StarStarStarStarStar 2 units Dead after i got them last year
User: james A, May 7, 2010

Pros:  Sounds was good, Fit in my ears good, easy to pocket
Cons:  both units just stopped working

They were great when they worked, but just recently they both stopped working cant even charge them, light never turns on, I give it 1 star for that reason but i give is a 4 star for design. Design for me was good, easy to place in the ear and wear, then able to put it in my pocket.
StarStarStarStarStar Shorts out if youre a runner or cyclist
User: Andrew Buswell, Jan 3, 2010

Pros:  fits well, comfortable, buttons make sense
Cons:  shorts out and breaks...kind of a problem

I had 3 of these before I just gave up in a 3 week timeframe. I rode with these and they simply couldnt handle the sweat. They shorted out each time...still trying to find the perfect bluetooth headset for the iphone for a cyclist and/or runner.
StarStarStarStarStar Good but...
User: Richard Velez, Nov 29, 2009

Pros:  Sounds, Battery Life
Cons:  Mic

I have these headset. Sounds great, long battery life but the when I pickup a phone call, the person on the other side says, I sound like Im under water most of the conversation. I have to turn off the bluetooth and talk using the phone.
StarStarStarStarStar Great headset for non-athlete
User: M Marino, Nov 4, 2009
I loved this headset when it worked. Sound quality is definitely better than Jaybirds JB-200 but not quite as good as the Sony HBH-IS800. The controls on the headset work reasonably well (minus the track controls which iPhone does not support).

My problem with this headset was durability. The headset seems to aimed at the active user but I shorted out 3 headsets within a 6 week period due to sweat while running/resistance training. If you are a casual user of this headset and wont be sweating much than I think its great...otherwise stay away.
