GNS 5870 MFI Bluetooth GPS Receiver for iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, AT&T iPhone 4

Product Description

The compact GNS 5870 is an add-on Bluetooth GPS receiver specifically designed for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch (also works with any smartphone that accepts a Bluetooth serial connection)

Its highly-sensitive 32-channel GPS chip provides fast and precise positioning. Perfect for for situations where the built-in GPS receiver is not reliable enough (aviation) or for adding GPS capabilities to devices without a built-in receiver.

The receiver is compatible with all current iOS GPS software apps - no jailbreaking needed! In addition to iOS devices, the GNS 5870 MFI can be used with any computer that accepts a Bluetooth serial connection.

The embedded Li-Ion battery allows for operation time around 10 hrs, and is can be charged from the bundled car adapter or any USB port/charger. A benefit of the Bluetooth connection is that you can locate the GPS receiver away from the iPad for optimal reception, and that the 30-pin dock connector is not blocked and free for usage with other accessories like audio player handsfree or FM Transmitter.

The GNS 5870 MFI is delivered together with a cigarette lighter adaptor and a USB cable for charging.

Compatible with the following iOS devices under Apple's "Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad" program:

  • iPad (both 3G/non 3G version)
  • iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G
  • iPod touch 3G, 2G

Works with: iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, AT&T iPhone 4

No problem pairing with an ipad, and the GPS function works fine. I just cant figure out why they didnt use a conventional mechanical ON/OFF switch. I know theres a cool factor associated with using finger gestures but.. cmon.. on a GPS puck? Predictably, the unit turns on and off without warning just from routine handling. This is not good when its being used for aircraft navigation. The last thing I need is a device that I have to carefully handle to avoid inadvertent operation. Advice for manufacturer: the next time one of your engineers comes in and says "watch this!," send them packing.
